Hana—meaning "to glow and radiate" in te reo Māori—encapsulates a sanctuary of serenity. With its calming atmosphere and rejuvenating treatments, the spa offers respite from life’s everyday chaos. Our task was to mirror that tranquillity online. By refining the brand and transitioning them to Shopify, we created a seamless connection between Hana’s physical and digital spacings, increasing bookings and sales while offering their team greater autonomy over their online storefront.

BACKGROUND

To establish a cohesive brand ecosystem and strengthen their positioning, the visual identity and tone of voice was thoughtfully refined. This involved the art direction of fresh content and careful oversight of the copy creation process. A neutral colour palette was chosen to reflect the spa’s tranquil interiors, while slow-motion videos and subtle animations were introduced to evoke calm, offering a glimpse into the Hana experience for first-time visitors.

In Hana’s physical locations, the experience can be likened to a consultation. Clients are given tailored recommendations from the knowledgeable team, led by founder and pharmacist, Sara Higgins. Every product and treatment is thoroughly tested, ensuring it meets strict quality standards. We translated this experience online by bringing their expertise to the forefront, refining the information architecture to seamlessly embed educational content at every touchpoint.

Elevated navigation

The website's unique tracking cursor adds a refined touch upon landing, while also emphasising Hana's two core offerings—treatments and products.

Mimicking in-store assistance

A comprehensive mega-menu replicates the physical retail experience online, showcasing the extensive range of brands available. Users are given the opportunity to shop by category or concern, with key information presented on hover to educate and guide customers toward the best products for their needs.

Education at every touch point

Whether you’re on the home page, category page or product page, the health benefits of products and treatments are consistently highlighted. For those seeking a deeper understanding, a dedicated knowledgehub features insights from Hana’s experienced practitioners and guests. Users can explore the podcast, read the journal, or subscribe to the newsletter.


Fluid browsing

On category pages, sticky information remains visible, adding context as users navigate the range. Informative content modules educate users and promote other categories, fostering a natural exploration of the offerings while removing the need to constantly return to the main navigation.

Highlighting benefits

Product pages feature ‘great for’ tags, offering users a quick overview of key benefits, while a slide-out ingredients panel provides detailed information for those interested in a deeper exploration of the products.

Insight-driven sales

Customer insights have been leveraged to drive online sales. In response to frequent enquiries about the products used in the spa, a module was added to each treatment page, enabling users to shop these items with ease.

Results

The aesthetically rich interface enhances the brand experience for customers online, while the custom Shopify 2.0 site empowers the Hana team to manage their online store with autonomy and minimal operating costs. Within the first six months of launch, online sales doubled.
